Janke de Kock

Janke de Kock is a South African artist and trained illustrator living and working in the Netherlands.

Her practice moves between drawing, painting and mixed media. She is currently developing a body of work that uses smoke and flame to create unpredictable marks, which are then shaped by hand using oil paint, charcoal and other materials.

She first encountered the foundations of this process while studying illustration at university in South Africa. Her work explores the meeting point between chance and control, destruction and creation.
